Casa de Miedo
These past couple of months we've been working on something called the Habits of Heart and Mind. My teachers taught us that in order to be successful we should first succeed in these 7 areas down below, I explain each area and also how I feel like I succeeded in the areas throughout the first couple of months of this semester.
Refinement:
During this past semester absolutely everyone succeeded in this area. We wrote many stories and always got critiqued. We refined our stories plenty of times to get them to our final draft. Our scary stories have five different drafts and thats because we would get critiqued by our CFF's (Critical friends forever) and other classmates, as well as a senior class.
Evidence:
We learned to have evidence for everything. If you have to prove a point or something to show, you should have evidence to show that you've done research. During the Casa de Miedo process, we had to have evidence to show what work we got done everyday. An example of that is our "To-Do Cards". Every day we made these cards, and we wrote a list of the things we had to get done that day. Those cards will keep track of the work we get done and to show others was has already been done, and other things that still have to get done. These "To-Do Cards" were very helpful throughout the process.
Mindfulness:
Mindfulness is a huge part of the Co-Op. To me, mindfulness means to be aware of your surroundings and peoples actions, as well as your own. For me to be mindful, I feel like I should put people before me and to help others before getting my own work done.
Cooperation:
I love working with others. I believe that group work is more efficient than individual work, as long as everyone is doing there part. Cooperation is a big part of group work because it means everyone working together. During the project Im so happy with the group mates that i was assigned with. It was a great time to get to know them as individuals. At the beginning of the project we all didn't know each other and we were just classmates, but know i'm happy to say that were all friends and that we all know each other very well. As a group we were able to work well together and always there for eachother when we needed the help. The main parts of the project like building, there was never one person working by themselves. We were all there for a groupmate needed help making something. Most of the time we were able to manage our time properly and make sure getting our work done was a priority before talking with friend. I think that my group did great in that cooperation HOHM because with our eachother we were have never been able to complete our seen the way we visioned it.
Compassion:
To me being compassionate is being sensitive to the needs of others.
Perspective:
Perspective was one of the most important HOHM. We learned how to view things differently. A certain object can be used a million other way. What was once a single cardboard piece, was tuned into a mirror just by covering it with mylar. During this project we had to think outside the box so that we were able to use objects that weren't useful but were converted to useful things just by giving the object another meaning and having another purpose.
Perseverance:
Perseverance was a big HOHM as well. I have to say that this project was one of the most challenging project i've done sense middle school.. Very fun and exciting to do but very stressful as well. There were so many times where each and every group was stressed but by working together and making things work, we were able to overcome the stress and just move forward. We learned to not give up and even though their might be an obstacle in the way, we had to managed to past that and continue working with out making things harder for us. I believe that my group succeeded in this HOHM. There were so many moments where we were stressed out and didn't know what to do. We overcame this challenge by taking breaks once in a while by going outside and getting a big breathe of fresh air, and after a couple of minutes, go back inside and work our hardest once again.
