The "Model United Nations Project" was a project where us students resembled the actual United Nations became delegates and discussed major world problems in a debate form. We were given the task of portraying a country and to debate all of the topics in the perspective of our country. The main topic of the 2-day conference was refugees and how we could potentially resolve the crisis.

An opening speech's purpose is to introduce the country and to give a very brief introduction to the issue discussed in their resolution as well as the country’s perspective regarding other issues that will be debated within the caucus. A speech is heard only once and, therefore, needs to leave a strong impression.
Position Paper:

Final Reflection:
The conference was a really cool experience. It was very interesting to see how much research everyone did to be able to portray their country. The conference was actually a stress reliever because all the work we did in class was getting put to use. I am proud of myself for persevering throughout this project because there were so many times where I wanted to give up because I was so stressed out. I took matter into my own hands and talked to my teacher and got the help which made me feel so much better and confident about my work.
The committee I was apart of was awesome. There was never any major conflict. We were all very generous and willing to help everyone around the world. We passed resolutions that would benefit people and help them for the better. Our conference ran so smoothly. Although we had some disagreements, there were never any big arguments.
I have gained more awareness of the world around me. I think its important to be aware of the global issues. I was never into learning or researching about these global issues and it was never something I would do in my spare time, but with this project it was cool to learn about things happening right now around the world.
This project was heavy on developing academic and real world skills. A skill that I was able to grow in is taking on a new perspective. Throughout the conference I had to always remind myself that I was portraying another country so I couldn't share my own. Also, I had to always share my country's perspective even if I didn't agree with it and I believe that I did a good job at doing that. I also grew in other areas such as research and writing while writing my position paper. Research is key.
