Night Light Project
During this project we had the opportunity to design and create a solar powered night light for first grader at High Tech Elementary.
Circuits:This is my "Five circuit scenarios". We learned about how circuits work as well as what causes them to function. We learned about different types of circuits such as a Parallel Circuit. and Series circuit. We learned about components that make or break a circuit.

Evidence of construction:Here are some of my scale drawings. These include different point of views (front, side and top) of the product.
These scale drawings were used to help design the final product. These were helpful because they helped identify the full scale and size. AFter creating scale drawing we crated a tinkerCAD of it to be able to 3D print it.

My Little Buddy:
Day 1 : Meeting our buddy
Today we walked over to the elementary and went to a first grade class. We met our first grade buddies. My little buddy is named Devon. Hes 7 years old and his birthday is July 27. MY little buddy was not shy at all, he was very talkative and very outgoing. He understood the questions me and my partner Marco were asking him. He was also able to reply with a detailed answer. We asked him what he wants to be when he grows up and he said that he wants to be a pokemon trainer. We then asked him what his favorite pokemon character was and he said Ash. I know nothing about pokemon but he was able to talk to me about the them and introduce them to me. He then explained the character and their powers. Marco liked pokemon as-well, so him and Devon were able to have a conversation about that. The next couple questions were to be able to get to know our buddy. He said he has 1 brother and 2 sisters. He likes to watch tv and his favorite tv show is digimon. Devon's favorite sport is basketball.
Our buddy then go a book from their library and it was about reptiles. He shared with us that he loves spiders. He then flipped the pages and would explain the animal and what they do, for example he would show us a venomous conda and then he would say how venomous they are and that they can kill us. We stayed engaged by him asking us if we liked that reptile and he would tell us if he agrees or disagrees. Our first day meeting our little buddy was a success. The few questions we asked leaded to more questions and was very helpful for us to be able to get to know him a little bit.
The process of coming up with a design for him included a lot of brainstorming. We talked to him about the things he was interested in to see if he would like to take those things that he liked to turn them into a nightlight. We knew he was into pokemon so we gave him the idea to recreate a pokemon character. He gave us a list of his favorite characters and then told him that he had to chose one. His favorite was pikachu so we came to the conclusion of making a pikachu nightlight.

Growth:
Refinement:
Refinement was a huge part of the creation of our nightlight. Not only was there refinement in drawings but as well as the digital work. Creating this night light we used a website called TinkerCad. I found this website very difficult and made many mistakes. My partner Marco was very good at creating things on TinkerCad so he did most of the difficult stuff, which I was thankful for. Although there were many mistakes we were able to refine and make it better. When it was our turn to use the 3D printer there was a problem with the size of the head of pikachu, as well as the ears. Mr. Ted told us what the mistakes were and we were able to refine and fix them.
Evidence:
We would meet with our buddies about once a week and show them what we have accomplished that week towards the nightlight. As evidence we would show them our scale drawings, our work on TinkerCad, and they would give us critique about what they like about their future nightlight, as well as anything they would like us to change. We would take their input and make the adjustments to the nightlight.
Mindfulness:
We were each assigned a first grade buddy. We have to be mindful that these kids are just 6 years old and so if they get off task, or don’t pay attention to us, that isn't something we can get upset about because we were once that age too. Fortunately my buddy is a great little kid, he loves to draw and listen and is able to conversate almost about anything. For that reason I put my little buddy before me. I make sure hes happy with the night light as well and just happy in general. As long as hes in a good mood and willing to cooperate that's all that really matters to have a successful outcome.
Cooperation:
Before this project began we were able to choose whether we wanted to be in a partnership or work solo. I chose to work in a partnership because I get very stressed out easily, so if I worked with a partner we would be able to equally divide the work and be able to help each other out. We got assigned our partners and our little buddies. Together we have to work together to create it, and It takes cooperation to gather each others ideas and use them to produce the product. Me and Marco were very flexible and open to the ideas that our buddy Devon has.
Compassion:
My partner Marco was very compassionate towards me. He knew that I had a hard time using TinkerCad because I didn't quite know how to. He was able to do a lot of the TinkerCad work because he enjoyed doing it, also because he was very good at it. Although I wish I was able to contribute more into working and helping out with the TinkerCad, I tried my hardest to do our extra side work to contribute as much as i can.
Perspective:
Our buddy mark was an intelligent little kid, and he didn't want any simple nightlight. We gathered options of nightlight possibilities and shared them with him. When we first met him we were able to talk to him about his interests. We found out that he was a huge Pokemon fan and so we gave him many Pokemon characters as options. We had to view things in his perspective to see how he would like a nightlight to be, and finally we were able to come to the conclusion of having a pikachu nightlight and having the cheeks light up.
Perseverance:
I feel as if Marco and I persevered a ton during this project. Our nightlight shape is a ball and the ball will be on top of a box, but we didn't that there will need to be something that needs to attach those two together. Which was our mistake because we had to go back and fix that and add something to the bottom of the ball that will be able to slide into box and stand up straight and sturdy. We had to persevere and not give up and just do what we need to do to to fix the problem.
Our buddy Devon was a great kid. There was never a dull moment with him. He was a little kid who knew when it was okay to play and when it was time to work. The times we had with him and were able to talk about the nightlight were never wasteful because he always had something to say. Him and my partner Marco had a lot of things in common and so they were always talking about videos and Pokemon, and i thought that was very cool because Devon was so young but knew so much, such as characters and their powers.
